About the Conference
The Centre for International Law (CIL) at NUS is hosting a one-day conference focused on International Energy Law titled ‘Conceptualising International Energy Law: Shaping the Future Amidst Transition in a VUCA World’. The conference will examine the rapidly evolving landscape of international energy law, especially in light of the global energy transition and shifting geopolitical dynamics.
Themes and Sub-themes
The conference invites submissions on the following themes and sub-themes:
Interdisciplinary Approaches: Linking international energy law with climate, environment, trade, investment, human rights, etc.
Defining International Energy Law: Principles, norms, and meta-norms of international energy law.
Evolving Theories: Theories of international energy law in a changing global context.
Energy Governance: Interrelationships between international energy law and global energy governance.
Global Energy Transition: Re-imagining international energy law to address the energy trilemma (energy security, environmental sustainability, and energy equity).
Geopolitical Conflicts: The impact of geopolitical conflicts on international energy law.
Regional Energy Cooperation: The role of regional cooperation in shaping international energy law.
North-South Divide: Addressing the divide in international energy law.
Role of Courts and Tribunals: Shaping international energy law through judicial bodies.
Submission Guidelines
Abstract: A concise abstract (up to 500 words) outlining the research question, methodology, and key arguments.
Reflection: A brief reflection (up to 500 words) on how the submission aligns with the conference’s objectives and relevant sub-theme(s).
Author Information: Full name, affiliation, and contact details.
Publication and Funding
Travel & Accommodation: Costs for return airfare (economy class) and hotel accommodation (two nights) will be covered for selected candidates.
Post-Conference Publication: Candidates whose proposals are selected will have the opportunity to develop their presentations into chapters for an edited book following the conference.
