About the Organiser

The Lucknow University Moot Court Association (LUMA) functions under the aegis of the Faculty of Law, University of Lucknow, one of India’s premier legal institutions. Established in 1921, the Faculty of Law was shaped by visionaries such as Mr. Jag Mohan Nath Chak (first Dean) and Prof. R. U. Singh, who led it until 1956. Prof. Singh also played a foundational role in developing the Law Faculties at Delhi University and Banaras Hindu University.

Renowned alumni include Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma (Former President of India) and Dr. Avtar Singh, a distinguished authority on contract law. The university has a legacy of producing eminent jurists, legal scholars, and policymakers.


About the Competition

The 3rd edition of the Dr. Avtar Singh Memorial National Article Writing Competition invites original and insightful articles on the interface of Artificial Intelligence and Law. The competition is a tribute to Prof. (Dr.) Avtar Singh, a pioneer in contract and commercial law scholarship in India.

Theme: AI and the Law: A New Era of Legal Innovation
Participants are expected to critically assess AI’s influence on legal frameworks, ethics, jurisprudence, and practice.


Eligibility

  • Open to all Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) law students enrolled in any recognized law school or university in India.

  • Sole authorship or co-authorship (maximum of two authors) is permitted.

  • AI on Trial: Legal Dimensions of Intellectual Property in India

  • Increasing Use of AI in IP Raises Ethical Concerns

  • Last Date of Registration: 19th April, 2025

  • Last Date of Submission: 26th April, 2025


Registration Fee

  • Single Author: Rs. 400

  • Co-Author (Max 2): Rs. 600


Submission Guidelines

  • Submissions must be in both .doc/.docx and .pdf formats.

  • Articles can be written in English or Hindi.

  • Each submission must have a relevant title based on the selected sub-theme.

  • Formatting:

    • Font: Times New Roman / Kruti Dev (for Hindi)

    • Font Size: 12

    • Line Spacing: 1.5

    • Alignment: Justified

  • Word Limit: 2000–3000 words (excluding footnotes).

  • File Naming:

    • For single authors: AuthorName.docx/pdf

    • For co-authors: AuthorName & CoAuthorName.docx/pdf

  • The last page must include:

    • Author(s) Full Name(s)

    • Name of Institution

  • The content must be original and unpublished. Plagiarism will result in disqualification.

  • Only one entry per participant is allowed.

  • Non-compliance with guidelines will result in automatic disqualification.

  • All rights of submissions are vested with LUMA, University of Lucknow.


Prizes

  • Winner: Rs. 3000 + Certificate of Appreciation

  • 1st Runner-Up: Rs. 2000 + Certificate of Appreciation

  • 2nd Runner-Up: Rs. 1500 + Certificate of Appreciation

  • All participants will receive a Participation Certificate
