About the Department
The Department of Legal Affairs (DOLA) is a division under the Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India, established in 1961. It plays a key role in providing legal advice to various government departments and handling litigation at different judicial forums.
About the Internship
DOLA offers a structured Internship Programme for law students and graduates, aimed at providing hands-on experience in legal research, court proceedings, and advisory work in specialized fields, including:
- Constitutional & Administrative Law
- Finance Law & Economic Law
- Labour Law & Infrastructure Law
- Arbitration, Contract Law & Conveyancing
Eligibility Criteria
- Indian law students who have completed:
- 2nd year of a 3-year LLB course OR
- 3rd year of a 5-year integrated LLB course
- Law graduates from any recognized law school/university.
- Preferred Skillset: Advanced knowledge of MS Office, infographics, Adobe, etc.
Internship Duration
- One-month internship, commencing from the first working day of every month.
Selection Process
- 50 candidates are selected every month.
- Shortlisted candidates will be informed via Internship Portal/email.
Internship Locations
Selected interns will be deployed at:
- Main Secretariat, New Delhi
- Central Agency Section, Supreme Court of India
- Litigation HC Section, Delhi
- Branch Secretariats in Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru
Internship Responsibilities
- Legal Research & Referencing on assigned topics.
- Drafting & Reviewing Legal Documents related to court cases and government policies.
- Court & Policy Analysis on ongoing legal matters.
Submission of Report & Certificate
- Interns must submit a monthly report on their research work.
- 90% attendance and satisfactory performance are mandatory for receiving an Internship Certificate.
Honorarium
- Interns will receive an honorarium of ₹1000 upon successful completion.

Important Terms & Conditions
- Full-time, in-person internship; interns cannot pursue any other work/course during the tenure.
- Formal dress code: Black trousers with a white shirt.
- Confidentiality agreement: Interns must adhere to DOLA’s non-disclosure policy.
- No accommodation provided; interns must arrange their own stay.
- Library access: Reference-only (photocopies allowed; book borrowing not permitted).
