About the Job

IFF is hiring a Litigation Counsel to lead landmark digital rights cases that will shape India’s internet freedoms and constitutional law. The role involves working with top advocates, gaining expertise in tech, media, and law, and representing IFF on major platforms.


Eligibility Criteria

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B.) from a recognized university.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of post-qualification experience (PQE preferred).
  • Preferred Background:
    • Prior litigation or internship experience.
    • Interest in public law, emerging & digital technologies.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Enrolled advocate authorized to appear in court.

Key Responsibilities

1. Litigation Management

  • Draft & review pleadings and ensure timely filing & listing in court.
  • Coordinate with clients & external counsels.
  • Brief arguing counsels for hearings.
  • Attend court proceedings (may require travel outside Delhi).

2. Court-Centred Advocacy

  • Track pending cases, media reports, & RTI responses to identify new advocacy opportunities.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients & external counsel.
  • Stay updated on legal developments for potential IFF engagements.

3. Collaboration

  • Work with IFF’s Parliamentary & Policy Counsel and RTI Counsel to build legal strategies.
  • Guide IFF’s Of Counsels & serve as the primary litigation contact for the Executive Director.
  • Draft & file RTIs/appeals when needed.

4. Administrative & Management Tasks

  • Maintain internal records (spreadsheets, calendars, case files, etc.).
  • Develop annual strategy plans & help draft grant proposals.
  • Ensure budgets are within set limits.
  • Provide feedback & reviews for associates and fellows.

5. Communications & Community Engagement

  • Write blog posts, social media content, & op-eds to inform the public.
  • Engage with volunteers & community members.
  • Respond to media queries & represent IFF in talks, panels, & conferences.
