IDIA Karnataka – Khaitan & Co. 1st Annual Essay Competition

About the Opportunity
The Karnataka Chapter of Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access to Legal Education (IDIA) is organizing an Essay Writing Competition in collaboration with Khaitan & Co (KCO). IDIA is a non-profit, student-led initiative dedicated to empowering underprivileged and marginalized students by increasing access to legal education. This competition serves as a fundraising initiative to support IDIA’s efforts. Khaitan & Co, one of India’s most renowned and longstanding law firms, is supporting this event as part of its commitment to legal excellence and social responsibility.

Eligibility

The competition is open to undergraduate law students enrolled in either 5-year integrated law programs or 3-year standalone LL.B. programs.

Prizes

Participants stand a chance to win the following rewards:

1st Place: Internship opportunity at Khaitan & Co, ₹5000 cash prize, and a Certificate.
2nd Place: ₹3000 cash prize and a Certificate.
Top 5 Entries: Certificates of Merit.

Theme

Participants must choose a topic that substantially relates to commercial and corporate law. Submissions outside this scope will not be considered. Suggested themes include:

Intersection of Data Privacy and Competition Law in India
SEBI and Fin-Influencer Regulation
Revisiting the Corporate Purpose Debate in India
Fiduciary Duty of Promoters in India
Regulating Competition in the Digital Sphere
SEBI Amendment to the “Connected Persons” Definition under Insider Trading Regulations

Submission Guidelines

All entries must adhere to the following criteria:

Word Limit: 5000-7000 words (excluding footnotes)
Authorship: Solo and co-authored submissions (maximum 2 authors) are permitted
Citation Style: OSCOLA (4th Edition)
Formatting:
- Font: Times New Roman, Size: 12
- Line Spacing: 1.5
Anonymity: Submissions must not contain any identifying details (name, email, university, etc.). Any violation will result in disqualification.
