ABOUT COMPETITION COMMISSION OF INDIA

Competition is the best means of ensuring that the ‘Common Man’ or ‘Aam Aadmi’ has access to the broadest range of goods and services at the most competitive prices. With increased competition, producers will have maximum incentive to innovate and specialize. The Competition Act, 2002, as amended by the Competition (Amendment) Act, 2007, follows the philosophy of modern competition laws. The Act prohibits anti-competitive agreements, abuse of dominant position by enterprises and regulates combinations (acquisition, acquiring of control and M&A), which causes or likely to cause an appreciable adverse effect on competition within India.

ABOUT THE FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (FDP)

In India, the competition law framework has emerged from being governed by the erstwhile Monopolistic and Restrictive Trade Practice (MRTP) Act, 1969 to the current Competition Act, 2002. The MRTP Act was framed on the basis of socialistic ideas and philosophies which is an essential element of Directive Principles of State Policy. However, the MRTP Act did not envisage effective measures against the public sector companies and was unfairly more restrictive to the private sector. Therefore, The Competition Act, 2002 was introduced to address the inadequacies of MRTP Act.

The Programme would be graced by distinguished speakers including Academicians, Professors, Deans and Head of Institutes. The Guest Speakers’ List includes Prof. (Dr.) T.S. Somashekar (Chairperson, Post-Graduate and Doctoral Council, NLSIU), Dr. Avinash Dadhich (Director, Manipal Law School), Adv. Dipti Lavya Swain (Founder & Managing PartnerDLS Law Offices), Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Kumar Singh, (Professor and Dean Department of Law, SRM University, Delhi NCR, Sonepat), Prof. (Dr.) Harpreet Kaur, (NLU, Delhi), Vikram Srivastava, (Founder, Independent Thought NGO), Dr. Aneesh V.
