RTI AWARENESS WEEK (VIRTUAL) OCTOBER 12TH – 16TH, 2021 ORGANIZED BY SCHOOL OF LAW, LOVELY PROFESSIONAL UNIVERSITY, PHAGWARA, PUNJAB IN ASSOCIATION WITH PUNJAB STATE INFORMATION COMMISSION (CHANDIGARH)

ABOUT THE EVENT

An event is being conducted by the School of Law, Lovely Professional University as “Right to Information Awareness Week (12-16 October, 2021)” in association with the Punjab State Information Commission, Govt. of Punjab. The participation is invited from the students and faculty members of the University/ College/ School in the scheduled events by completing the registration process. The participants shall receive a certificate of participation and shall also have the opportunity to win prizes in the competitions.

PUNJAB STATE INFORMATION COMMISSION

Constituted under the mandate of the Right to Information Act, 2005 the Punjab State Information Commission operates out of its office from Chandigarh. The Commission is committed to usher in an era of transparency and accountability in governance by rendering essential adjudicatory functions and responsibilities within the framework of RTI Laws. In order to make ‘right to information’ a living reality in public life, the Commission has adapted to video-conference and web meetings in recent past. At present, Sh.Suresh Arora, IPS, (Retd.) is the Chief Information Commissioner.

  • Learn the process of drafting & filing RTI and related procedural norms.
  • Understand the role of Central & State Information Commissions in implementing a regime of RTI governance.
  • Learn about the work profile & role of Punjab State Information Commission.
  • Analyze select RTI cases and familiarize with contemporary trends.
  • Be a willing and spirited participant in the RTI revolution by sharing capacity building and developmental ideas.

RULES FOR RTI DRAFTING COMPETITION

·        Mandatory enrolment in a regular program in any recognized University/College/Institution.

·        A student shall be required to submit a valid student ID proof online.

·        Participating students shall be given select socio-legal themes at 10 AM on the scheduled day of the competitive event and they shall be required to submit their entries by 2 PM.

·        Students participating in the RTI Drafting Competition shall submit their drafts in English language only.

·        The participating entries shall be adjudged on the following specific parameters-

Organisation of the Draft-10 marks

Use of Language and Grammar Correctness-10 marks

Quality of RTI Queries-10 marks

Adherence to RTI rules-10 Marks

Brevity and Novelty-10 marks

·        The decision of the panel judges shall be final. The First Prize winner shall be awarded with cash prize of Rs 3100, Second Prize with Rs 2100 and Third Prize winner with Rs 1100. In addition to this, Ten Consolation Prizes shall also be awarded.

RULES FOR ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION

·        A student enrolled in any recognized school can participate.

·        A student shall be required to submit a valid student ID proof online.

·        Participating students shall be given select essay topics at 10:30 AM on the scheduled day of the competitive event and they shall be required to submit their entries by 2:30 PM.

·        Students participating in the Essay Writing Competition can submit their entries either in English, Punjabi or Hindi language.

·        The participating entries shall be adjudged on the following specific parameters:-

Organisation and Coherence-10 marks

Use of Language and relevant phraseology-10 marks

Sound Arguments and Logical Sequencing-10 marks

Brevity & Innovation-10 marks

Neat conclusion-10 marks

·        The decision of the panel judges shall be final. The First Prize winner shall be awarded with cash prize of Rs 3100, Second Prize with Rs 2100 and Third Prize winner with Rs 1100. In addition to this, Ten Consolation Prizes shall also be awarded.

REGISTRATION

All interested students and faculty members may register to participate in the scheduled competitive events. There is no registration fee. The registration for the event shall remain open till 12th of October, 2021(Midnight). The registration is on first come first serve basis as seats are limited.
