About NUALS Constitutional Studies Review

The NUALS Constitutional Studies Review was established in 2019 under the aegis of the Centre for Parliamentary Studies and Law Reforms (CPSLR) at NUALS. It is a student-edited, double-blind, peer-reviewed law journal dedicated to publishing scholarship on constitutional law, comparative constitutional law, jurisprudence, and the history and politics related to constitutional law.

The journal was founded to create a specialized platform for academic discussions on constitutional and statutory developments in India and across the world, examining them through the broad perspectives of history, philosophy, politics, and law.

About the Centre for Parliamentary Studies and Law Reforms (CPSLR)

The Centre for Parliamentary Studies and Law Reforms (CPSLR) at NUALS seeks to enhance the effectiveness of legislation for social transformation and justice through equitable legal administration.

CPSLR adopts an interdisciplinary approach to identifying legislative gaps, suggesting reforms, and supporting the enactment of new laws to address emerging challenges. It organizes special lectures, seminars, workshops, conclaves, essay competitions, and publishes books, blogs, and newsletters to familiarize law students with various legislative nuances.

About the Competition

The First NUALS-CPSLR-CSR Article Writing Competition aims to further discourse on recent events relating to constitutional and statutory law in India and around the world, providing a platform for law students to express their thoughts and perspectives on these issues.

Submitted entries will be evaluated based on several factors, including but not limited to research, novelty, clarity, and the ability to convey legal concepts & ideas succinctly yet effectively.

Themes for the Competition

Participants may choose to write on any of the following broad themes:

  • Canonising AI and Algorithms: Assessing the Indian Constitution’s Accommodation of New-Age Rights
  • Intersectionality of Rights: Expanding Constitutional Protections
  • Parliamentary Procedure: Learnings from the Past Decade and Role in Rule-Making
  • Privacy vs Free Speech: A Double-Edged Shield
  • Religion and Judiciary: The Indian Experience
  • Speedy Trials: Strengthening Constitutional Safeguards
  • The Right to Dissent: Role and Challenges in India
  • Fiscal Freedom and Federalism: State-Centre Prerogatives

Rules and Submission Guidelines

  • The competition is open to all.
  • Co-authorship (maximum of two authors) is allowed.
  • Authors are encouraged to narrow down the themes by focusing on specific aspects for a more novel analysis along with five keywords.
  • No registration fee is required.
  • Articles must be original and unpublished; plagiarism will be strictly penalized.

Formatting & Citation

  • Language: English
  • Word Count: Minimum 3000 words (exclusive of footnotes)
  • Abstract: Maximum 150 words, with five keywords
  • Font & Spacing:
    • Main Text: Times New Roman, 12 pt, 1.5 line spacing, justified alignment
    • Footnotes: OSCOLA 4th Edition, Times New Roman, 10 pt, single spacing
  • Anonymity: Authors must not disclose their name or institution anywhere in the manuscript, except on the declaration page.
  • File Format: Submissions must be in both MS Word (.doc/.docx) and PDF formats.

  • Winner: ₹5000 + e-Certificate of Merit
  • Runner-up: ₹3000 + e-Certificate of Merit
  • Second Runner-up: ₹2000 + e-Certificate of Merit
  • Top 10 Entries: Will be published on the CSR website
  • All Participants: Will receive an e-Certificate of Participation
