Maharashtra National Law University, Aurangabad proudly announces the 1st NHRC-MNLUA National Moot Court Competition, 2024 which is scheduled to be held from February 9-11, 2024.

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY- MAHARASHTRA NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY

Maharashtra National Law University, Aurangabad, one of the premier National Law Universities in India, is dedicated to the development and advancement of legal education, and imparting specialized and systematic instructions, training, and research in the field of law. MNLU, Aurangabad despite being in its nascent stage, has and continues to grow and aims to advance and disseminate learning, knowledge of law, legal processes, and their role in national development. Its ultimate goal is to inculcate in its students, skills of advocacy, critical thinking, and judgment, but above all –a sense of responsibility towards the society, which they help shape and transform.

ABOUT NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION

Established on October 12, 1993, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is a vital institution in the landscape of human rights protection and promotion in India. The NHRC serves as a sentinel of human rights, entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring justice for victims of rights violations and promoting a culture of respect for human dignity. The NHRC’s importance can be observed from its role as a catalyst for legal and policy changes. Many of its recommendations have led to amendments in existing laws and the formulation of new policies to better protect human rights. Furthermore, the NHRC continues to play a pivotal role in raising awareness around human rights issues through various initiatives which include conducting seminars, workshops, and moot court competitions.

ABOUT THE 1ST NHRC-MNLUA NATIONAL MOOT COURT COMPETITION, 2024

The NHRC-MNLUA National Moot Court Competition is to be an annual event that will serve as a platform for law students from various law schools and universities across the country to showcase their legal acumen and advocacy skills in stimulated court proceedings. The Competition will typically revolve around hypothetical human rights cases –involving issues such as discrimination, torture, and freedom of expression –challenging students to argue, analyze, and defend their positions before a panel of esteemed judges. The NHRC-MNLUA National Moot Court Competition not only aims to test the participants’ knowledge of human rights law but also to foster critical thinking, legal research, and advocacy skills. It encourages students to delve into the complexities of real-world human rights issues and develop persuasive arguments. This Competition offers a unique learning experience in addition to providing an opportunity for networking and engaging in meaningful interactions with brilliant minds with similar interests from all over the country.

GENERAL DETAILS:

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

Note –Bachelor of Law means a 3-year course post-graduation or 5-year integrated course for Indian students or an undergraduate degree in law recognized by the Bar or Regulator of where the student is undergoing education.

TEAM COMPOSITION:

Each team shall consist of two speakers and one researcher.
