About SPIL:

Students for the Promotion of International Law (SPIL), Mumbai at Government Law College, Mumbai, as the name suggests, is a student body which cynosures International Law. With an increasing need for awareness in the field of International Law, we maintain that such awareness is put into an impetus through the diverse events we conduct within the versatile subject of International Law.  At SPIL, we take a novel approach for Students and Academia alike, to let them be a part of the discourse, to explore the magnificently huge sphere of International Law, while always keeping in mind the grey and equivocal areas of the subject and attempting to abridge the same.

About BIAMC:

Bali International Arbitration and Mediation Centre (BIAMC) is Indonesia’s only international organization related to alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and one of the premier providers of dispute resolution services in in the Asia Pacific region. It has set many innovations and trends over the last few years. They are a non-profit service centre located both in Bali and in Jakarta, devoted to international dispute settlement through arbitration, mediation, or other forms of ADR. The BIAMC Academy (www.biamcacademy.com) offers various courses from “Essentials of Arbitration” to advice on international moot court competitions and drafting CVs.

CIArb is an international centre of excellence for the practice and profession of alternative dispute resolution (ADR). About the Panel Discussion

Topic: “Demystifying the Long-Term Effects of COVID-19 on Arbitration Procedure and Opportunities

The four esteemed panellists will be talking about the effects of COVID-19 on arbitral procedure that law students/young professionals should be aware of/study (the revisions in the arbitration rules of the LCIA and ICC, the propensity of online hearings etc.), opportunities for law students/young professionals (resources, courses, virtual internships, etc.) and challenges (no in-person internships, hiring freezes etc.). This will be done with an “Indian” outlook / for young Indian practitioners.

About the Panellists:

Mr Dharam Jumani: Besides actively practicing at the Bombay High Court, he is also the President of the CIArb YMG Mumbai and sits on the CIArb Global Steering Committee. Moreover, he is a Counsel at Chambers of S. U. Kamdar

Mr. Harald Sippel: He is the Bali International Arbitration and Mediation Center’s (BIAMC) Academic Director, among many other roles. He plays a key role in promoting international arbitration in Asia. BIAMC has started several unique and useful initiatives under his leadership.

Mr. Rahul Donde: He is a counsel at Levy Kaufmann-Kohler, Geneva. He has acted as arbitrator, counsel, secretary and assistant of the arbitral tribunal in over 30 international arbitration proceedings under both ad hoc (Indian Arbitration Act, 1996, Swiss PILA, UNCITRAL) and institutional arbitration rules (CEPANI, CRCICA, HKIAC, ICC, ICSID, ICSID (AF), LCIA, SIAC).

Ms. Shreya Gupta: She is a Principal Associate at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas and a former managing associate of Bharucha & Partners, Mumbai. She has a master’s in International Dispute Settlement from MIDS Geneva and has worked for 8 years in the field of commercial litigation and international and domestic arbitration.
